1950s Designer “Richard Blackwell” Polished Cotton Hourglass Cocktail Dress w/ Removable Overskirt
Hey sacrifice from the Butch Wax Vintage archives, this ensemble is incredibly special! This set is made by Richard Blackwell, who went on to create the Mr. Blackwell label. It’s very rare that you see one of these early pieces by him. The inkiest black polished cotton with hand printed large white floral outline design. Both pieces are hand studded with sparkling crystal rhinestones. Trust me, there are so many rhinestones on this piece it’s crazy, and they sparkle so much in person. The dress features a gorgeous pleated shelf bust with sleeves that can be worn on or off the shoulders, a fitted bodice with nipped defined wasp waist, and chic slim tapered pencil skirt. The perfect hourglass silhouette, this piece is tailored so beautifully. It also features a matching overskirt that is removable, it closes with a hidden hook and eye in the front. I think this overskirt could also be worn as a cape! Two fabulous looks in one ensemble! The overskirt is lined in a semi stiff felt material to hold its shape and jut out dramatically. I simply cannot say enough about this set, there is a reason it was in our personal collection. It is one of the most beautiful examples of 1950s cocktail wear we have ever seen.
