Woof woof! A glorious skirt, featuring some VERY GOOD BOYS (or girls). 🐶 Original 1950s custom made by hand cool grey wool felt complete circle skirt with 3D wool felt poodles!! A true poodle skirt. It features the tag from “Helft’s - Beverly Hills Hotel - Hotel Statler.”

 I am 99.9% sure this is an authentic early “Julie Lynn Charlotte” piece. It has all the telltale signs, including the Beverly Hills boutique label. Juli Lynne Charlot was THEE originator of the poodle skirt. She first created these wearable works of art out of necessity. In 1947 she was going to a Christmas party with her husband and she had nothing to wear. She couldn’t sew a stitch, so she cut a circle in the middle of a big piece of felt, appliquéd on some Christmas trees, and that is how the first novelty wool felt skirt came about! Shortly after that, she began selling her pieces to a Beverly Hills Boutique where they would sell out immediately, people requested “dog” themed skirts- and in 1948 the famous poodle skirt was born.

This beauty features a back metal zipper, hooks and eyes at the back waist, and satin ribbon reinforcement on the waistband. Full circle cut with a huge hip pocket with a poodle on it. The dark grey poodles are extremely well made with wool felt fringe for fur, and detailed with sequins. The poodles’ leash wraps around the entire skirt and sticks out at the top in a very cute fashion, where you would hold into it if you were walking them. This is a very substantial piece, definitely a wearable work of art and mid-century fashion history.

Near excellent condition, a few tiny nibbles about the size of a pin head sporadically, some very tiny marks randomly, not noticeable at all when on.

Size extra small to small, accommodating a 24-26” waist (the hooks and eyes can be moved over an inch to make it larger as well), free hips, 32” skirt length with a separate 3” waistband.
