1940s “Surfriders Sportswear” Novelty Print Cotton Hawaiian Maxi Dress
Aloooooha! Out of my most recent batch of Hawaiians, this one is definitely one of my top favorites! This print is just too too good! Original 1940s cotton Hawaiian hourglass maxi dress by one of the most prominent labels in 1940s Hawaiiana, “Surfriders Sportswear Manufacturers!” Made in Honolulu. This is a tinier piece, it is tagged a vintage size 10, best for a modern small. Elastic lined ruffled neckline that can be worn on or off the shoulders, trimmed underneath and golden yellow cotton. Princess seamed for a fitted tailored bodice and nipped wasp waist, full flowing long maxi skirt with ruffled hem. Side metal zipper. This print is so fabulous, a golden yellow background with accent shades of rich lipstick red, inky black, white, and caramel. The novelty print is of hula dancers dancing to a Hawaiian band playing conga drums and ukuleles, huge hibiscus flowers, clamshells, pineapples, and of course huge fish! Such a conversation piece! If this one fit me properly I would not be selling it, it is very rare.
Mint condition. Size small. Accommodates a 32/34” bust, a 26/27” max waist, up to 44” hips, and 56.5” total length.
