Deadstock 1950s “Nani of Hawaii” Painted Sealife Print Cotton Hawaiian Sundress Set
Deadstock unworn 1950s designer “Nani of Hawaii” hand painted cotton 3 piece sundress set! Nani of Hawaii was a label that was created by Betty de Leuw. Her early designs were extremely high-end, and she was considered in the same caliber as other mid century Hawaiian couture designers such as Tiana Pitelle. Some of her fabrics were hand painted, and this is a gorgeous example of that. This ensemble features the sundress, matching bolero, and matching belt! The dress bodice is fully lined in cotton voile and features a back metal zipper with hook and eye closure. The cropped fitted bolero features a traditional frog closure at the high neck line. The thin belt also closes in the front with a frog closure, the belt is not pictured.
The dress has thin spaghetti straps, a beautifully pleated shelf bust design, fitted princess seamed midsection, nipped defined wasp waist, and full complete circle skirt with hidden hip pockets. The cotton fabric is a spectacular under the sea hand painted novelty print of fish, seashells, clams, seaweed, coral, etc. So fabulous! A really killer piece of vintage Hawaiiana for the discerning collector.
Deadstock unworn condition, size small, accommodating a 32” bust, a 26” waist, free hips, and 43” total length.
